Opening our doors
We will be increasing the opening hours over the summer period.
We will be at the Auckland Castle Food Festival on 21st April with a large stand outside the Bishop’s entrance.
The Castle will also be open for visitors on the day. With more than a quarter of a million pounds to find simply to keep the Castle operational in year 1, we are sure you’ll understand that we will be charging for this (£5 per adult, children free), which is a discount on our normal entry prices. As a one–off, this ticket includes free entry to Binchester Roman Fort, which is really worth a detour.
In return for your fiver, you’ll not only get to explore the Castle’s magnificent state rooms: you’ll also get to see a short film about the Castle made by Prof. Diarmaid MacCulloch, get a guided tour from one of our expert ‘Friends’, and, space allowing, have the rare opportunity to listen to Jonathan Ruffer, Chair of the Trust and the Castle’s primary benefactor, talking about his vision for the Castle.
We will be increasing the opening hours over the summer period.
Auckland Castle has been the home of the Bishops of Durham for almost 1000 years. These pictures have been a part of the history of the Castle for over 250 of them.
The annual Food Festival returns to Bishop Auckland, and it’s tastier than ever before!
Auckland Castle is available to hire for corporate seminars, formal banquets and weddings or ceremonies.
