Community focus
The Castle as a place of spiritual and moral importance in the life of the community.
The presence of the Bishop, so fundamental for the first 800 years of the Castle’s history, remains important today. Whilst no longer living in the Castle, the Bishop of Durham will continue to work here, thus ensuring the continuity of the Castle as a place of spiritual and moral importance in the life of the community, and returning it to its roots as a provider of jobs and training in the locality.
The Castle as a place of spiritual and moral importance in the life of the community.
We are working with national partners such as the V&A and the British Museum to stage both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
In time, we hope, a visit to the Castle will draw in a wide range of people.
The Castle will become the place in England to tell the story of the History of British Christianity.
