Opening Hours

Please note that the castle is now closed for the winter season and our 2013 opening dates will be added to this page shortly. 

Tickets cost £4.00 for adults, concessions and children over 12 are £3.00 and children under 12 are free. We also offer a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children over 12 for £10.00.

We are delighted to announce that we are retaining 2011 prices for the 2012 season, although with our £10m fundraising target, contributions to the redevelopment of the Castle are welcomed!

Traveling by Car and Coach

When approaching from Durham on the A688 follow signs for Bishop Auckland Town Centre avoiding low bridge.

Auckland Castle is just off the Market Place in the Bishop Auckland. When visiting the castle, during the specified opening times, it is permitted to park within the castle grounds.

Service Buses

Direct service buses run regularly from Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham and Middlesbrough to the town centre of Bishop Auckland. Auckland Castle is approximately 5 minutes walk from the bus station. See travelinenortheast.info for further information.

Traveling by Train

Darlington (14 miles away) is the nearest railway station on the main London to Edinburgh east coast route. A taxi, bus or train can be taken from Darlington to Bishop Auckland. The train station in Bishop Auckland is located in the town centre and approximately 10 minutes walk to Auckland Castle.
